The new ASB CeramicFloor
The ASB GlassFloor has been on the market for more than 2 years. The floor was tested at many national and international championships, e. g. in Hongkong and Saudi Arabia, two of the highest remunerated squash events. Nevertheless we have not rested, but further developed – not only to improve our GlassFloor, but also to consider all different conditions at events (change in weather, high air humidity etc.) – which would cause problems to any floor.
After 4 months of further development the ASB GlassFloor has improved considerably and has become the new ASB CeramicFloor which was named after the dots made of ceramic that are applied on the glass surface.
The floor was tested by the Material Testing Institute Stuttgart and the International Institute for Floor Technology independently. Both came to the admirable result:
The DIN-standard for a wooden floor stipulates 2.3mm deflection. The CeramicFloor had a deflection of 3.5mm and 4.0mm at all tested points. Which is considerably better than any wooden floor or massive wooden floor.
It was also tested whether it meets the DIN standard for shock absorption. DIN stipulates shock absorption of 53% for wooden floors. The ASB CeramicFloor had a value of more than 60% at all tested points.
We want to test the Ceramic Floor with these innovations under tournament conditions together with the world top players as well as their federations WSF, PSA and WISPA. We will use the players’ feedback again to further develop the floor if required.
We make all this effort in order to improve the presentation of the sport of squash. To some extent you can compare the situation with the development of space travel and medicine. Had the people not had the courage and determination to carry out tests under real conditions also accepting many a
setback, we would never have been on the moon so far and today millions of people might still die of the simplest diseases.
